POSTER #2
Over the last year I designed a series of posters for an electronic club night called ‘Smart Casual’. The initial concept of the event was to create a humorous juxtaposition of formal dress wear and the underground night scene. I wanted each poster to be its own character. With the one consistent through line being the image of the dress shoe. My experience with Alasdair McKay and Dan Leggett was one of my most positive. They provided me with plenty of creative freedom and room to experiment. Whilst also adding valuable creative input. Overall, this is one of my favourite projects I have worked. The night started as a small event in Glasgow. Now they play major events all over Scotland and collaborate with fellow DJ’s on live events.
Knowledge is key to be part of the winkle-picker community. For 'Smart/Casual's' debut we decided to inform the ignorant and reacquaint the old timers. If you are going to proverbially 'hit the town' in your finest pair of brogues. It is of the upmost importance that you are familiar with every one of the many intricacies involved in dress shoe craftsmanship. With this detailed schematic, you will be suited and booted with the appropriate lingo for any encounters with fellow members of the 'Jeans 'n' Sheux' brotherhood. After examining this poster, you will be able to make such astute remarks as "My, those are some lovely welts you have there", or "Ah, I see you have some nice stippling on your extended heel. How tasteful". All kidding aside this poster helped to provide the basic tone and template for future posters to come.

THEMED CLUB NIGHT
This poster was largely inspired by the Daft Punk’s art work for the album “Random Access Memories”. The picture is actually of my shoe taken on a Nikon D750.
This design is a parody of “Drug Warning” the police issued at music festivals. The pill at in the poster is an anti-histamine tablet. I then created the shoe imprint on photoshop. No illegal drugs were photographed in this poster.
I have always loved the look of the Air Jordan’s poster, which this design heavily draws from. The twisting of the jeans and bending of the shoe still helps to evoke the surrealist approach of the club night.
The first illustrated poster I produced for the club night. I’m very proud of this one. The image comes from a Alasdair sent me of a man standing on a pizza box.
Second illustration I did for ‘Smart Casual’. This was the first one where I explored changing the layout.
At this point, it had been a whole year since the club nights birth. What better way to celebrate then with a big birthday bash.
Again, we decided to shake up the format a bit here. Alasdair had specified wanting this poster to look like the classic techno posters that had come before.
We went for a more retro inspired approach with this design. I liked the idea of the elements having a fragile 8-bit appearance to them.
